"Number One"

A week before their long-awaited debut album hits shelves, This Many Boyfriends will release their new single 'Number One' through Angular Recording Corporation on October 1st.

Although it still brims with the jangly guitar-pop warmth that we’ve come to associate with the Leeds-based group, 'Number One' takes a more gentle turn, steering listeners away from the near-frantic indie-disco dancefloors that were meant for the likes of 'Starling' and '(I Should Be A) Communist' .

Don’t be fooled though, 'Number One' is still quintessentially 'Boyfriends. Rough around the edges and charming with a whistle-worthy melody, the single recently won BBC 6Music's Rebel Playlist.

"(I Should Be A) Communist"

This is our new single, released on Angular Records and produced by Ryan Jarman from The Cribs. It is entitled '(I Should Be A) Communist’ and it is about our bass player, money and cardigans. There's a stupid story here, which like most things, is better left as a myth.

Over time it has gone from a hazy indiepop jangle to a ferocious punk clatter and, not to blow our own trumpet, it has become something of a 'live favourite'. By 'live favourite' we mean two more people were spotted tapping their feet than usual and one drunk bloke in a 'Meat Is Murder' T-Shirt once told Richard it sounded 'a bit like The Smiths'. Joe from our label says it sounds like The Housemartins.

We say it's a pop song about big stuff, the big stuff being buying superfluous, dumb things when you have no money. And we should make it clear from the off that's it's not really an academic study about the merits of Communism, it's a silly song with a guitar solo. Karl Marx, avert your ears!

"STARLING"

Let us introduce you to 'Starling'. As well as being the name of an ace bird it is also the rather cracking new single from the Northern indiepop band This Many Boyfriends. To be released as an exclusive limited fanzine, the song can be found amongst stories, recipes, pop quizzes and other lesser spotted sightings, all hand drawn by the band’s fair hands. As well as a fanzine it is also a popsong. It has a riff. It's about ornithology and love.

Young Lovers Go Pop
"YOUNG LOVERS GO POP!"

Young Lovers Go Pop! is a classic scruffy pop single in the vein of 'Hey Scenesters!', 'Blue Boy', or 'Caught By The Fuzz'. Wry smiles, knowing lyrics, and endlessly catchy shoutalong choruses, This Many Boyfriends embody the most euphoric pints-aloft moments at the indie disco.

"GETTING A LIFE WITH…"

Like their forebears The Pooh Sticks and Velodrome 2000, This Many Boyfriends carry the torch for DIY punk/indiepop kids everywhere. The seven songs on this EP epitomise the classic Sarah Records line of 'wrong notes and wrong chords but crammed with right Everything Else'.
