"To the modern youth, indiepop is perhaps best exemplified by the winsome tunes of Belle & Sebastian. However, those of a certain age may think more of bands like Heavenly or The Flatmates. Pocketbooks, a new band from London, defintely fall into the latter tradition. They are (as one famous record label boss once said) "full of wrong notes and wrong chords but crammed with right Everything Else." The a-side "Cross The Line" is a Monday-morning, boy-girl debate on the life of the salary-slave in London, which chirps along in a surprisingly jolly fashion underpinned by a deliciously swirly organ. Flip, "Every Good Time We Had" bittersweetly trumps the a-side, but only just!"
