Following on from their two critically acclaimed singles on Detail Records and Thee SPC, Smokers Die Younger release their debut album as a joint release from these two Sheffield labels. Taking its title from an abstruse and wholly irrelevant diagram by the philosopher Daniel C. Dennett, X Wants the Meat is an eclectic romp through a variety of idioms. The group's distinctive identity shines through their magpie approach to song construction: This identity is perhaps best summed up as an intuitive balance between left-field pop perfection and "a sea lion barking over a load of pneumatic drills".
