Thee SPC Say
Totally brilliant second Screaming Mimi release on Phantom Power Records. "Dorothy Millette" is a corker - Imagine Debbie Harry singing Nick Cave's murder ballads. "Bumblebee" is a Parisian-tinged waltz that whisks the listener off to the seedier recesses of the Moulin Rouge and back. I think this is the Mimi's best work to date and bodes well for the album due in the summer.
A Selection of Reviews
"Mmmm I’m not sure I know which I like more, the twisty haunting 60s spy theme-esq A-side Dorothy Millette which criminally stops just before 007 gets to shoot his load or the seductive Bumblebee with its straight-outa-the Moulin Rouge sleaze oozing Gallic sauciness with its whiff of Gauloise and Number 5." Sounds XP
"The Mimi return with another track of writhing sexiness that has this writer gagging to see them. ‘Dorothy Millette’ reminds me a little of mid-eighties Fall with Brix on vocals, and features a cute rockabillyesque guitar line that sounds oddly contemporary." Tasty Fanzine
"It's utterly infectious, drawing you in and treating your ears to a frenzy of guitar riffs, rhythmic drumming and enchanting vocals. Then, before you know it, after a brief drum build-up, it ends! The premature nature of the finale is enough to make one go back immediately for another listen. And with each one, it gets better and better. Be warned, once Screaming Mimi have got you, you'll never escape their clutch." This Is Fake Diy
"A word of warning: do not listen to this record. Do not listen to this record, that is, if you are of a nervous disposition. It has the potential to mess with your mind, and may lead to paranoia, confusion or unnatural thoughts. If, however, you are of sound mind and able to separate music from reality, then you really should give it a spin - and to hell with the consequences." Leeds Music Scene
