Thee SPC Say
Here's an excellent Phantom Power Records release, this time from Balor Knights (who did a split on Thee SPC with The Scarlet Tuesday last year.) ‘Tornado’ is - dare I say it! - verging on the anthemic. It bursts with emotive vocals, a dizzy melody, a heartbreaking lyric and - so rarely - doesn't sound remotely cloying or sentimental. I've loved this song from the first time I heard the original demo. Beautiful. The flip, 'Get Straight' is a catchy, punchy dose of off-kilter indiepop.
A Selection of Reviews
"Hammond-infused lo-fi soul-boy shuffle be ‘Tornado’, guitarist Howard’s vocal yelp, and a soothing reply from keyboardist Emma, really heightening the emotive pull. ‘Get Straight’ is a little more surreptitious, scurrying and twitching its nose like a particularly athletic mouse. A mouse that has confidence not only in its ability to exploit gaps, but to knock the whole fucker down." Vanity Project
"Effervescent, delightfully catchy and dressed in a kind of fuzzy felt glow that makes your insides tingle" Losing Today
"It’s a big sound, for sure, and reminds me a little of the Edsel Auctioneer’s earlier poppy stuff. There’s a nice, garage-y feel to this. Hugely enjoyable." Tasty Fanzine
"Bit like Blood Red Shoes with the shouty girl thing and breath break silences. Fun! " Nroman Records
