Thee SPC Say
The Repomen finally deliver their debut album, only about 15 years after forming, but it is worth the wait. It's chocked with a cracking variety of catchy-yet-dark tunes, and the occasional leftfield ballad, all with a jangly 80s indie feel. My personal faves are "Next Best Thing", with its Buzzcocks-like urgency, "Dietrich" (which sounds like Teardrops Explodes doing a Love cover) and the delicate, heartfelt "A Different Situation".
A Selection of Reviews
"Songs they Never Play on the Radio' is packed with easy to like choruses, jangly guitars, rollicking drums & a devil may care approach to guitar music." Norman Records
"Marvellous dark pop on this wonderfully eclectic record." Sounds XP
"Highlights are the single 'Trophy' with its jangly guitar pop, driven at a perfect pace by a tight bass and drum beat, and 'Fold' which could easily be the Cure having a bad-hair-day. Eno's 'Needle in the Camels Eyes' gets a great work over and made me want to dig out the original again, and 'Different Situation' has beautifully crafted vocals.
"For fans of off-kilter pop and rock, the Repomen- intelligent, thoughtful, creative, inventive and provocative -and the lucky-for-some thirteen tracks on ‘Songs They Never Play on the Radio’ have multiple rewards." Penny Black Magazine
