Thee SPC Say

Debut single from new Sheffield Label, Phantom Power Records. This 7" is a split featuring two fine Sheffield bands. Owners of early issues of Thee Humbug should be aware of how great both Screaming Mimi and Repomen are! The Mimi track is a foot stomping tune akin to Throwing Muses and early Smiths. Repomen similarly deliver their jangly pop, but with a darker edge. An excellent split.

A Selection of Reviews

"Single Of The Week: If you heard this on the radio you would SOOOO go & rush down the shop to buy it." Norman Records

"A split single by yet another pair of talented tykes from South Yorkshire. Screaming Mimi offer the uptempo Who is Louise? which twists and turns like a musical walnut, veering between country tinged rhythms and meandering Turkish delights. Bafflingly good. Over on the flip, Trophy by RepoMen is equally impressive with its warm harmonies, 60s string plucking and relentless driving beat, it suggests a more brooding take on Sally Cinnamon. Terrific." Sounds XP

"Screaming Mimi proffer an itchy alt.rocknroll with a vocal that’s pitched between Kirsty MacColl and Gwen Stefani. It’s country, it’s gypsy, a little bit Bollywood as well as pleasantly surf. Repomen kick in with a drilling, buoyant bass sound, over which ethereal guitars waft, while the whole show is at the Magazine end of cerebral pop punk. Two tunes of immense spirit and undoubtable quality." Vanity Project

"Both songs on the single are very accomplished in their complexity and individual style." Sandman Magazine
